Wraps Up Week 2 Of Boots on the Ground Tour of TX-23

April 30, 2022 –  Democratic Nominee for Congress John Lira (TX-23) returns to Maverick County for the second time this week and wraps up Week 2 of his “Boots on the Ground Tour” in TX-23.  Lira has spent the last two days Zavala and Dimmit Counties meeting with Elected Officials, Pastors, Veterans, Educators and Voters of all backgrounds and listened to what they had to say about the important issues and public policies that impact their lives.

On Saturday, April 30, Lira returns to Maverick County for the second time this week following up on the success of the Our Border, Our Solutionshe organized that brought together over thirty community leaders including elected officials, veterans, educators and concerned voters from Maverick County and 6 neighboring counties.

“It’s good to be back again in Maverick County and in Eagle Pass, this is one of the first places I came to after announcing my candidacy a year ago next month. Community stakeholders from all over the region came to Eagle Pass on Monday to have a meaningful  discussion about the border and immigration. We came together and refused to have our backyard defined by out-of-state Republican Representatives from Georgia,Tennessee, Mississippi, Utah and California.  We demonstrated to them that the solutions for the border have to come from our people and our communities,” stated Lira.

Before heading to Eagle Pass in the morning, John Lira will be taking part in the Winter Garden 5K run hosted by the Winter Garden Women’s Shelter to bring awareness to preventing child abuse in the region and will meet with families and caregivers. The event is at Dimmit County Park, Carrizo Springs, Industrial Blvd, Carrizo Springs, TX 78834, 8:00am.

Lira will then be meeting with voters at the Maverick County Democrats Rummage Sale, Maverick County Lake, Eagle Pass, TX2350 E. Main St. Eagle Pass, TX 78852.  Lira will be at the Sale from 11am-1pm offering free hot dogs and refreshments and meeting with voters.

While at Maverick County Lake, Lira will speak at 12:00pm, at an event hosted by local law enforcement officials in support of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and protecting our Senior citizens.

John Lira will be available to the media for interviews. Please contact Communications Director Juan Rodriguez,, 312-771-0263.

John Lira’s Boots on the Ground Tour stops in El Paso and Bexar Counties next week.  The Texans for Lira Campaign will distribute upcoming dates, times and events as they are scheduled.

John Lira Boots on the Ground Tour

Since raising his hand to serve, John has had his boots on the ground at the forefront of some of the toughest environments from combat in Iraq, to helping his fellow veterans transition, to serving at the forefront of national service legislation on Capitol Hill.  As a candidate, he has once again laced up his boots and is ready to once again serve his neighbors in Southwest Texas.  Prior to launching his campaign, John committed to visit each of the 29 counties in Texas’ 23rd U.S. House Congressional District.

“During the primary season, I had the opportunity to visit over half of the counties in the district. On these trips I met many wonderful people that genuinely care about Texas and its people.  Voters in Dimmit, Maverick, Bexar and El Paso and many others shared their concerns about the humanitarian border crisis, the erosion of voting rights, a diminishing workforce, the chilling attack on women’s reproductive rights and also the crumbling infrastructure issues in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District. I was told that these communities felt overlooked and neglected by leadership in Austin and Washington. To me this is more than just an opportunity for photo opportunities, to me this is a ‘listening and action’ tour, it is an opportunity to hear the truth about what’s on the minds and hearts of voters,” stated John Lira.
