San Antonio, TX —  The following are the comments of Democratic U.S. House of Representatives Candidate (TX-23) John Lira regarding the callus and unpatriotic comments made by the Republican National Committee.

“As a United States Marine Corps Combat Veteran, I proudly served and defended our Country to give each American the right to have “Legitimate Political Discourse.”

Attacking, killing and injuring our US Capitol Police and others, forcibly breaching and damaging our US Capitol, attempting to take hostage or kill our Vice President and Congressional members on January 6th does not represent “Legitimate Political Discourse. It is a gross and self-serving misrepresentation of the First Amendment”

I whole-heartedly condemn the Republican National Committee stating that January 6th was “Legitimate Political Discourse.” The statement is un-American and attempts to normalize violent insurrection against our government. I call on all Texas 23rd congressional candidates, including Tony Gonzales, to join me and condemn that remark.”
